Bottom-Up Realization of a Type-II Organic/Transition-Metal Dichalcogenides Heterointerface: Pentacene on Monolayer WS2

We are pleased to share our latest ACS Nano publication on the bottom-up realization of a type-II heterointerface between pentacene and monolayer WS₂.

This hybrid organic–2D semiconductor system combines the molecular versatility of pentacene with the distinctive electronic and optical properties of a transition-metal dichalcogenide. The resulting type-II alignment provides a promising platform for investigating interfacial charge separation, electronic coupling, and excitonic phenomena at the nanoscale.

The work highlights how controlled molecular adsorption can be used to engineer van der Waals interfaces and tailor the electronic landscape of low-dimensional materials—an approach closely connected to our group’s interest in scanning tunnelling microscopy and spectroscopy of correlated 2D systems.
